Starting Dec. 16, York Catholic District School Board secondary students will all be fully remote learning for three days.
The reason behind this brief change is an upcoming "cohort flip" for the current quadmester, YCDSB told yorkregion.com.
Since September, YCDSB secondary schools have been following the quadmester schedule, which consists of two classes each quadmester, with a rotating A and B cohort schedule. Students take one class in-person and one class online for half of the quadmester, then there is a cohort flip and students switch courses they take in-person and online to finish the quadmester.
"At that time, secondary students will begin attending in-person classes with a new cohort of students who they were previously learning with online," YCDSB said.
Since the holidays and the winter break are around the corner, and York Region started its first day in the Grey-lockdown restrictions Dec. 14, YCDSB decided to "begin the new cohort schedule entirely remotely, so that students and staff will not be exposed to additional contacts prior to Christmas".
"The cohort flip will still occur, but all classes will be fully remote for these three days," the board confirmed.
