Aurora Walmart, Newmarket-area Longo's, LA Fitness among latest charged for COVID-19 safety violations

61 charges laid as crackdown continues on York Region businesses

Public Health issued 18 of the charges, the City of Vaughan issued 30 charges, 11 were issued by the City of Markham and two by the Town of Aurora.

Anytime Fitness in Stouffville and Aurora Crossfit were charged for showers being in use (Crossfit was also charged for exceeding allowed capacity).

Several restaurants in Markham, Vaughan were charged, including the Octagon in Thornhill which faces two charges for permitting more than 10 patrons on two consecutive days

Coppa's Fresh Market in King was charged for masks not being worn by several employees.

Freshway Foodmart in Markham was charged for not having a safety plan, for serving buffet-style, and for being over capacity

Nino D'Aversa bakery in Woodbridge was charged for no masks being worn by customers.

Other businesses face a variety of charges including not having interior doors closed to the mall, failing to post mandatory mask signs, inadequate contract tracing logs and allowing more than four diners to a table.

Businesses that do not keep customers and employees safe by adhering to the mandated COVID-19 safety measures could face charges and fines of $750.

Repeat offenders could face temporary closure.

The region plans to continue the COVID-19 task force inspections throughout the holiday season, visiting malls, big box and retail stores, restaurants, food premises, fitness centres and other locations.
