It’s almost time to grab your blades and head over to Riverwalk Commons for some outdoor skating.

Weather permitting, skating at the popular downtown spot will begin Dec. 11.

But, as with all things this year, the pastime will look different in the midst of COVID-19 restrictions.

There will be a separate entrance and exit, strict capacity limits and all participants will be required to complete a health screening questionnaire.

Also, participants will be required to book their skate session in advance at play.newmarket.ca.

Links and time slots will be available one week in advance.

General hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 5 to 10 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Holiday hours of operation are:

Volunteers will implement COVID-19 rules at outdoor rinks at Lions Park, Ken Sturgeon Park and Whipper Watson Park.

Chris Howie, who is running the rink at Lions Park for his seventh year, is looking for help putting boards up the morning of Dec. 12.

Please bring non-perishable food items for the Food Pantry when using the Lions Park rink.
