Vaughan, Markham Catholic elementary schools closed due to COVID-19

Newmarket, Thornhill, Markham, Stouffville, Vaughan schools have new cases of COVID-19

St. Padre Pio Catholic Elementary School in Vaughan and St. Benedict Catholic Elementary School in Markham each reported four new cases of COVID-19 Nov. 30, and the schools have been closed due to the outbreaks.

Four other Vaughan schools also reported new cases.

In York Catholic District School Board, St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School reported two confirmed cases and has two closed classrooms, and St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Elementary School has one new case, three in total and three closed classrooms.

In York Region District School Board, Maple High School reported one more case of the virus, bringing its total confirmed cases to 10, and Vellore Woods Public School has a one new case, three in total.

Two other Markham schools reported new cases of COVID-19.

Milliken Mills High School has a new case, and St. Brother André Catholic High School has one confirmed case and one closed classroom.

Two Newmarket schools, Alexander Muir Public School and Huron Heights Secondary School, each have a new case of COVID-19.

Louis Honore Frechette Public School in Thornhill also has a new case of the virus.

St. Brendan Catholic Elementary School in Stouffville reported three new cases and has four cases in total, and three classrooms have been closed.

York Region Public Health says it will communicate directly with those who had contact with the cases. York Region District School Board and York Catholic District School Board will make sure that all appropriate measures are being taken.

Public Health reminds students and families not to enter school if they are feeling sick or have had close contact with a confirmed case or with someone who is showing symptoms of COVID-19.
