For any downtown there ought to be a cultural centre, and that’s exactly what’s happening for Vaughan’s emerging core.
The new cultural centre at the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) is on the south side of Highway 7, directly across from a new transit hub.
JUST THE FACTS
- The 75-acre cultural centre is a joint venture by Toronto-based Menkes Developments and QuadReal Property Group, which has its headquarters in Vancouver.
- The two are building the first phase of Festival, which consists of four striking towers with about 2,500 units that will meet an animated central plaza consisting of boutique shops, cafés, restaurants, a fitness facility and a grocery store.
- The site will feature retail, residential, schools, parks and a community centre with a large outdoor stage.
- There will be access to over 430,000-square-feet of retail space, 45 acres of park and public space and 17 kilometres of trails in the south VMC alone.
- It’s located south of Highway 7 between Commerce Street and Interchange Way.
- The project is to cater to a projected population boom of up to 30 per cent by 2031. It is in proximity -- six minutes -- to the VMC subway station and minutes from York University and the new Niagara University campus in Vaughan.
