Students at Tommy Douglas Secondary were welcomed to school Nov. 18 with a hold-and-secure after someone falsely called police suggesting someone walked into the building with a gun.

At 9:15 a.m., York Regional Police received the call advising of the danger this individual posed to the student body.

Several officers arrived, securing the perimeter and putting caution tape around the school, but no threat was discovered.

Police are now investigating who made the phone call that resulted in plenty of wasted resources.

"The school took all appropriate precautions and YRP responded immediately and was able to confirm that there was no threat to the school," York Region District School Board spokesperson Licinio Miguelo wrote. "The hold-and-secure was then lifted. Everyone was safe in the building and the school has communicated with its families."
