Earlier this year Corner Cannabis put in application for a pot shop at the old Savex Lottomart, at the corner of Main Street and Mill Street in Stouffville. It looks like it might have a little competition on Main Street as Jolly Green Cannabis has a an active application to open a pot shop on 6134 Main Street next to the Smokery, Red Bulb and Tiny Bubbles.

Whitchurch-Stouffville became the first council in York Region to agree to allow cannabis stores last year and One Plant opened in the Longo’s plaza at the start of this year.

“Cannabis is legal and it’s not going away,” Coun. Rick Upton said at the time. “Today, cannabis is very available anywhere, any time you want it, on the black market. This is one of my major concerns; on the black market, you don’t know what is in it, what it’s laced with.”

At the time, many residents were upset with the decision, and council was presented with a 300-name petition opposing cannabis stores.

Currently there are two pot shops open in town: One Plant and Gormley Cannabis, located at the corner of Woodbine Avenue and Stouffville Road.

There are four others with open applications including Corner Cannabis, Miss Jones, on 28 Sandiford Drive and an unnamed application in Ballantrae.
