Another COVID-19 warning has been issued after 16 cases of the coronavirus were linked to a recent wedding in York Region.

The region's public health department issued a notice Nov. 17 alerting those who attended two wedding-related events in King Township Nov. 6 and 7 that they are at high risk of contracting the virus themselves.

Attendees have been identified as residents from York Region, Peel Region and the City of Toronto.

There are currently nine confirmed cases and seven probable cases linked to the two events, all residents of York Region, said York Region spokesperson Patrick Casey.

The individuals attended a series of wedding-related events held at a private residence in King. No further details on the location of the events were available.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 attended the events while contagious, Casey said, and the risk of exposure to others who attended is considered high.

Anyone who was at the events in King Township is advised to self-isolate for 14 days until Nov. 22 and monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19.

If any symptoms develop, seek assessment and testing at an assessment centre and continue to isolate while awaiting results. If you test negative, you must still isolate until Nov. 22, Casey said.

Attendees should also contact the local public health unit in the jurisdiction where they reside to advise that they attended these wedding-related events.

Casey said the region was notified of the first confirmed case Nov. 14 and public health is now conducting case and contact management, working with the family to notify attendees about potential exposure.

Asked if any charges were issued, Casey said "Public Health continues to investigate these and previous outbreaks in consultation with legal services."

This latest cluster of COVID-19 infections is one of several recent outbreakslinked to weddings in York Region.

It's a reminder of the importance of physical distancing from anyone outside of your immediate household and wearing masks indoors, Casey said.
