This should come as good news to Newmarket fitness buffs.

In response to the province introducing a tiered COVID-19 reopening plan in York Region, Newmarket is reopening the fitness centre at the Magna Centre on Nov. 9 with strict health and safety measures in place, the town said on Nov. 6.

Members must book their workout session in advance, which can be done at play.newmarket.ca. For more information, visit newmarket.ca/fitness.

Group fitness classes remain on hold until further notice.

Meanwhile, the town is reminding residents to review and follow safety measures in place for any open facility they visit.

Wear a mask or face covering when inside, practice physical distancing, wash your hands frequently and -- most importantly -- stay home if you’re experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms.

All residents visiting a town facility will be subject to a health screening process.

The pool at the Magna Centre is open for lane swim, public swim, aqua fitness and use by local sport organizations.

Participants must reserve a time slot for their swim session in advance, which can be done at play.newmarket.ca.

Use of the change rooms is only permitted for patrons after their swimming session.

The indoor skate park at the Newmarket Recreation Youth Centre and Sk8 Park is open Tuesday to Friday from 4 to 8:15 p.m. and Saturdays from 1 to 7:30 p.m.

Users are encouraged to reserve their spot in advance, which can be done at play.newmarket.ca

All other town facilities will remain closed at this time.

Officials are continually monitoring the COVID-19 landscape and will continue with a cautious approach to reopening with the health and safety of the community being their number one priority, the town said.
