The City of Vaughan continues to expand and make improvements to local parks and open spaces throughout the community. The global COVID-19 pandemic is not slowing these important city-building priorities down! These projects reflect Vaughan’s tradition of creating welcoming outdoor areas that safely bring the community together, are inclusive, encourage recreational activity and provide greenspace for generations to come.

Here are highlights of some City parks that have recently or are currently undergoing enhancements:

WARD 1
The new waterplay feature at Secord Park (65 Secord Ave.) opened on Sept. 4. It includes a variety of fun splash and spray features and shaded seating. Playground improvements and accessibility upgrades are planned to start soon at Reeves Park (251 Barrhill Rd.), with construction anticipated to be completed by end of November 2020. In addition, planning for playground enhancements at Ramsey Armitage Park (8 Merino Rd.) is underway. Construction is anticipated to begin in spring of 2021 and be completed by July 2021.

WARD 2
Playground improvements at Father E. Bulfon District Park (199 Forest Dr.) and Sonoma Heights District Park (100 Sunset Rdg.) are nearing completion -- the last of the upgrades, a rubber tile safety surface, is currently being installed at both locations. Playgrounds are expected to be open by the end of this month. Construction is also underway at Napa Valley Park (80 Napa Valley Ave.), with improvements to the basketball and tennis courts. In addition, Kiloran Park (300 Wycliffe Ave.) will receive an expanded swing area and improvements to the existing tennis courts. Both of these locations are anticipated to be completed by the end of November 2020.

WARD 3
This month, construction will begin at the new Cannes Park (100 Cannes Ave.) development. This new neighbourhood park will feature children’s playgrounds, a gazebo, tennis courts, pathways and beautiful views of nearby valleys. Completion is anticipated for the end of fall 2021.

WARD 4
The design phase is currently underway for playground improvements at West Crossroads Park (170 Yellowood Cir.). Enhancements will include a full replacement of playground equipment and new accessible safety surfacing. Construction is anticipated to begin in spring of 2021 and be completed by July 2021.

WARD 5
The new waterplay area at Thornhill Green Park (19 Beverley Glen Blvd.) opened on Sept. 4. It includes a variety of fun splash and spray features and additional seating with shade umbrellas.
