A total of 44 confirmed COVID-19 cases are being related to a two-day wedding event in Vaughan in mid-October.
According to a news release by York Region Public Health, over 100 people attended a large wedding at the Avani Event Centre between Oct. 14 and Oct. 18.
Of those exposed to the virus, five are confirmed to be from York Region while 39 are from outside the region, the agency said.
Those who attended the wedding are considered to be at high risk of exposure.
York Region Public Health said it was notified of the first confirmed case on Monday. An inspection was conducted of the venue that held the wedding event, with those who attended being asked to self-isolate until Nov. 2.
At the time of the wedding, York Region was under Stage 3 of the provincial government’s reopening plan. Banquet facilities limited to 50 people for indoor events.
On Oct. 19, York Region was moved back into modified Stage 2 restrictions. That reduced social gatherings to a maximum of 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors
