A new elementary school is coming to Vaughan that will have a capacity of up to 638 students, Education Minister Stephen Lecce announced Oct. 23.

The new Kleinburg Nashville Elementary School will be located at the intersection of Baron Street and Algoma Drive. It will have 39 new licensed child-care spaces and two child-care rooms.

In a news release, Lecce’s office said the Ontario government is supporting the capital priority request from York Region District School Board with approval for the new school.

The population of Vaughan is expected to increase by 30 per cent by 2031.

"I want to thank the parents within our community for their advocacy and partnership," Lecce, who is MPP for King-Vaughan, said. "It is clear that with increasing population growth and students having to bus great lengths each day, this community deserves its own dedicated, modern school."
