A developer is seeking to redevelop a Woodbridge plaza into a multi-storey condo building.

JUST THE FACTS

Last year an application was submitted to redevelop the plaza at 4101 Rutherford Rd., on the southwest corner of Rutherford Road and Velmar Drive, into a seven-storey condo building.

Velmar Centre Property Limited, following public input, submitted a revised proposal on Aug. 28 seeking to develop a six-storey mixed-use residential building (down on storey) that tapers to three-storeys fronting onto Velmar Drive.

The new proposal includes 135 residential units, down from 139, and commercial space on the ground floor. It will feature 69 one-bedroom units, 42 one-bedroom-plus-den units, and 24 two-bedroom units

The plaza, located next to Velmar Downs Park, is currently home to a one-storey building that is home to several businesses, including Motorino restaurant.

The city's official plan permits a building with a maximum height of four storeys at this location. But under the Planning Act, any landowner can request the city amends its Official Plan. Velmar Centre Property Limited is exercising this right through the submission of an official plan amendment application.
