The following statement was issued by Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua after a special presentation in the Committee of the Whole (2) meeting on Oct. 14:

"This week, we were pleased to announce that the City of Vaughan has received the Quality Public Procurement Department Accreditation Award from the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing. This accreditation extends for three years until 2023. It recognizes excellence in public procurement and is presented to organizations that elevate the standard of practice for the procurement profession and realize greater credibility and recognition for their Procurement department.

"I am especially proud that Vaughan is the only city in Canada and is one of the few municipalities in North America to receive this honourable accreditation this year.

"Our procurement team works meticulously to provide goods, services and construction in a timely and cost-effective manner using processes that reflect the values of integrity, accountability and responsibility. This is an important function that contributes to our commitment to respect taxpayers' hard-earned dollars.

"This award demonstrates the City's dedication to implementing best practices to guarantee fiscal sustainability and credibility while safeguarding investments for the high-quality public services our community relies on each day. Our sound approach to public finances and commitment to open, accountable and transparent governance is fundamental to the City's ongoing success. Vaughan continues to maintain one of the lowest and most competitive tax rates in the Greater Toronto Area. We are securing efficiencies and maximizing every dollar we are entrusted to manage. Since 2015, we have achieved more than $30 million in budget savings because of our mission to strive for continuous improvement.

"This innovative approach has advanced our global position as an economic leader, and this award is yet another testament to Vaughan's sound financial practices. I am pleased to offer my sincere congratulations to City staff and, in particular, to the Procurement Services team. Thank you for your diligence and hard work. You should be very proud of this achievement."
