The Federal Government has announced some extra help for food banks and those who have really been hit hard by the pandemic.

Back in April, the feds invested $100 million in food banks.

On Friday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his government is doubling that investment.

“We’re putting another $100-million dollars towards supporting food banks, local food security organizations, Indigenous groups serving vulnerable people in communities and partners serving northern communities,” Trudeau said.

Trudeau says he spoke with Food Banks Canada on Thursday, saying no one should be left behind.

The investment comes as the Daily Bread Food bank here in Toronto says its seen a 200 per cent jump in new clients because of the amount of people that have lost their jobs or had their hours reduced because of the pandemic.

During the height of the first wave back in April, the federal government gave organizations 100-million-dollars.
