York Region seniors have enjoyed on-request transit service since July, and now, the region's Mobility On-Request (MOR) service has been extended to Dec. 31, according to a news release.

MOR is available to seniors 65 years or older who may feel hesitant about using regular public transit during this time.

For safety reasons, MOR only uses smaller vehicles like sedans, minivans and small buses to transport customers. York Region Transit (YRT) will make sure that vehicles are thoroughly cleaned, drivers are equipped with proper personal protective equipment and there is a limit to the number of passengers allowed in the vehicles at once.

Seniors who are travelling within the service areas can simply give YRT a call and their staff will pick you up and take you to your desired location within five kilometres of your home. This can be a grocery store, doctor’s office, pharmacy or any other address.

MOR aims to help seniors get where they need to go with confidence and safety. The service operates on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. (last pickup time), and is currently only offered in select areas within Georgina, East Gwillimbury, Newmarket, Aurora and Richmond Hill.

During the pandemic, YRT’s contact centre staff will screen all customers with COVID-19 questions before booking a trip. Meanwhile, a non-medical face mask or covering is mandatory on public transit.

Senior fare for MOR is $2.40 with Presto or the YRT Pay app. Cash fare is $4.25.
