WHAT’S NEW
The Vaughan International Film Festival transforms into one of the province’s first short-film festival drive-in event, held near the site of Vaughan’s original 400 Drive-in, which opened in the early 1950s. The three-screen drive-in theatre was demolished in 1998.
WHEN AND WHERE
The four-week festival runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from Sept. 4 to 27, at 1 Commerce St., Vaughan. Gates open at 7 p.m. and event starts at 8:30 p.m. Vehicles that arrive 15 minutes after the start of the event will not be admitted.
TICKETS
Tickets are $30 per vehicle, with a max of six passengers, and must be purchased online.
Proceeds from this year’s festival will support the Nia Centre for the Arts, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to showcasing and promoting arts from across the African diaspora.
FILMS
The four-week festival features a collection of more than 30 of the best films showcased during the past seven years, from comedy and drama to animation and documentaries. The multi-genre collection of local, Canadian and international short films will make you cry and cheer.
COVID-19 SAFETY PROTOCOLS
Patrons are required to say inside the vehicle while watching the films and to remain six metres apart when out of the vehicle. Masks are required to enter the concession and use the restrooms. Hand sanitizer will be available.
