The Grey Goat Pub & Grill in Newmarket is the first York Region business to receive a ticket for failing to comply with Reopening Ontario Act requirements put in place to combat the spread of COVID-19.
The ticket was issued Aug. 29 by York Region Public Health for noncompliance in maintaining records of patrons who ate in the establishment following an on-site inspection by Town of Newmarket municipal bylaw and York Regional Police officers.
The establishment, located at 74 Main St. S., was fined $880 after inspectors followed up on public complaints.
Establishments in contravention of the Reopening Ontario Act guidelines are subject to fines of up to $100,000, or not more than one year in jail.
Rules for areas in Stage 3 in the reopening process state that the person responsible for the establishment must record the name and contact information of at least one member of every party of patrons that enters an indoor or outdoor dining area in the establishment. That excludes patrons who temporarily enter the area to place, pick up or pay for a takeout order.
The records are required to be maintained for at least one month.
