Are you concerned about skyrocketing house prices, the problem of precarious housing and the plight of the homeless?

The Aurora Public Library is hosting two virtual events that explore the right to housing from both a local and global perspective.

On Oct. 1 at 7 p.m., there will be a screening of the documentary “Push,” which examines how the rising cost of housing is outstripping incomes.

“This film sheds light on a new kind of faceless landlord, our increasingly unlivable cities and an escalating crisis that has an effect on us all. This is not gentrification, it’s a different kind of monster,” the library said in a statement.

Yvonne Kelly, of the Social Planning Council York Region, will facilitate a discussion following the screening of the documentary.

On Oct. 15 at 7 p.m., Kelly will lead a discussion on the right to housing and steps the community could take to address the affordable housing problem.

The social planning council has been working with non-profits, sector leaders, municipal staff/politicians and community members to discover opportunities to increase affordable housing stock across York Region.
