Paved parking lots are coming to the Nokiidaa Trail in East Gwillimbury.

Paving at Yonge Street and Mount Albert Sideroad including the Green Lane lot was presented to council and approved in the 2020 budget.

The parking lot design and partial construction was completed in 2017 in conjunction with the Nokiidaa trail construction capital project.

Concerns about the seasonal use of the unpaved parking lot compelled the town to pave.

A total of $41,525.00 will be committed to the project by the LSRCA through the water balancing offsetting program to pay for the construction of the LID feature and native plantings. In addition to the grant, Parks and LSRCA staff will partner to design and manufacture educational signage that will be installed on the site.

"It's something I’ve been pushing for for two years," Ward 1 Coun. Loralea Carruthers said. "This will allow residents to access the trail during the winter months when we had previously had to close the lot due to winter maintenance issues."

Cost for the paving and construction of the LID feature at Yonge Street and Mount Albert Sideroad parking was estimated at $75,000. Cost for design and construction of the parking lot at Green Lane was estimated at $120,000.
