The Mount Albert Community Centre Park is open for fun following eight months of construction on the park's redevelopment.

The design for the park began in 2017 and consisted of multiple public engagement sessions and stakeholder meetings to develop a design focused on community needs, including the ability to continue to host Mount Albert Sports Day.

“We would like to thank the residents of Mount Albert for providing input which helped shape the design and redevelopment of this much-loved park,” Mayor Virginia Hackson said. “This park has been designed to serve the community for many years and we know residents are anxious to enjoy the park amenities. This is the second park to open this summer, despite COVID-19 slowdowns and we look forward to reopening our Queensville park later this month.”

The redeveloped park includes new playground equipment, picnic area, parking lot, four new basketball nets, and a skateboard and scooter zone. As part of the redevelopment the town has also prepared the basketball court to be flooded for outdoor skating, which began in the 2019/2020 winter season.

This new park also includes the town’s second skateboard and scooter zone which was sponsored by the Mount Albert and District Lions Club (Lions). The Lions raised funds for the space through a variety of fundraisers including selling dedicated brick paving stones which have been laid adjacent to each of the concrete walkway entrances into the skate park. The Mount Albert Sports Day Committee also provided a generous donation toward the park amenities.

Council thanked all those who supported and embraced the redevelopment of the park including the Mount Albert and District Lions Club, the Mount Albert Sports Day Committee and Mount Albert Public School. An official park opening event will be planned at a later date.
