The Town of Newmarket is reopening indoor facilities for fall programming in the coming days.

Continuing its “modified” approach in the pandemic environment, the municipality stated in a news release Sept. 11 that facilities will start reopening on Sept. 14.

“Safety is our number one priority,” said the statement. “We will continue to take this cautious approach as we

gradually reopen more amenities and resume some recreation programs to offer the community opportunities to safely stay active.”

Overall, fall programming has been reduced significantly in order to comply with public health measures. Programs and activities may be added based on demand and safety.

Due to the limited number of programs and a need for flexibility, a formal Fall/Winter Recreation Activity Guide will not be published.

A full list of programs is available by visiting newmarket.ca/recreation.

A partial reopening of amenities starts Sept. 14 when the Magna Centre pool opens for activity under strict health and safety measures.

Lane and public swimming and aqua fitness are expected to be available activities. Use of change rooms will not be immediately available.

Two of four ice rinks at the Magna Centre and both ice rinks at Ray Twinney Complex will be ready at the end of September for use by local sport organizations.

However, public skating is not yet available.

The Magna Fitness Centre reopened at the end of August and was relocated onto the Honda rink to ensure ample workout space.

Group fitness classes in the Tim Hortons Gym at the Magna Centre are expected to resume by the end of September.

The indoor skate park at the Newmarket Recreation Youth Centre and Sk8 Park is open Tuesday to Friday from 4 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. and Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
