A new development is underway at the south end of the city's emerging downtown core, known as the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, right next door to the Ikea store.
JUST THE FACTS:
- The development, dubbed Mobilio, is located on the south side of Interchange Way west of Jane Street and north of Hwy. 407, on an approximately six-hectare vacant lot between Ikea and Teledyne Optech Inc.
- Approved by city council in 2019, it is a two-phase residential development consisting of 1,148 units -- 751 condo units and 397 townhouse units in a mix of stacked, back-to-back and traditional types, according to Menkes. The three condo buildings will reach heights of 13, 15 and 18 storeys with retail space on the ground floor.
- Construction work has begun on the north half of the site, which includes three condo towers and about 135 townhouses.
- Occupancy is projected for 2022.
The project is a joint venture by Toronto-based Menkes Developments and QuadReal Property Group, which has its headquarters in Vancouver.
