Two calls for artists have been sent out – one in Aurora and one in Thornhill.

The Town of Aurora has announced its first call for artists as part of the downtown street wall mural program. Using town-owned walls along Yonge Street in the downtown core, the purpose of the mural program is to create a sense of pride and allow neighbourhoods to shape their community through creative expression. They are seeking an experienced artist to create the first mural for this program. The artist must have the ability to create an engaging design that is inspired by one or both of the following themes: Aurora's history, signature events and physical environment, and/or front-line workers in the fight against COVID-19.

The mural program guidelines and application form are available online. You can share the following link with any artists who might be interested in submitting a design for consideration: webforms.aurora.ca/Mural-Program/Downtown-Street-Wall-Mural-Program-Application.

Eligible artists have until Thursday, Aug. 27 at 4 p.m. to submit their online application form.

The Daniels Corporation invites artists or artist teams to submit proposals for a public art installation to be displayed around the perimeter of a construction site in Thornhill. The submission process will involve consulting with staff members from Daniels on the design of the work to arrive at a final concept.

Daniels, a real estate development company based in Toronto, is committed to identifying opportunities to support emerging and mid-level local artists in the community. This is for a hoarding art project at a new community in Vaughan, at Bathurst Street and Beverley Glen Boulevard.

The deadline for submissions is Aug. 16, 2020.
