Vaughan Fitness is opening Monday, Aug. 10.

However, the City of Vaughan has warned that there will be “strict measures” in place to “protect all users and staff” from COVID-19.

“Fitness centres will have controlled access, limited capacity and scheduled time blocks for patrons to sign up for in advance,” the city said in statement on July 30. “Workout blocks will be 75 minutes each, with a 30-minute shutdown in between appointments for cleaning and sanitation.”

Vaughan Fitness is part of the city's recreational services offered to its residents. After Ontario has declared a state of emergency on COVID-19, Vaughan Fitness, like other gyms, offered online classes to keep people fit.

Wear masks when entering

While entering, exiting and travelling through the facility, a mask is required. However, it isn’t mandatory when “conducting physical activity.”

Also, prior to arriving, all members will be asked to complete a provincial public health self-assessment.

“Upon arrival, members will present their fitness membership card, sanitize their hands, undergo a temperature check and complete the daily declaration of health screening before entering the facility.”

The news comes after York Region has already moved to Stage 3 of the COVID-19 recovery process. Commercial gyms such as GoodLife Fitness and LA Fitness have already opened their doors.
