Ah, Labour Day. Some say it’s the official end of summer. I prefer to think of it as one step closer to the candy-filled frivolity that is Halloween.
Here’s what’s open and closed on Labour Day -- Monday, Sept. 7:
CLOSED
- Canada Post (www.canadapost.ca) is closed on national, provincial and territorial holidays, (including Labour Day) with no collection or delivery of mail on those days. Post offices operated by the private sector will be open.
- Recreation: When it comes to choosing a city- or town-run recreational activity, make sure you check with your municipality’s website before leaving the house. Some community centres are closed because of Labour Day, others have not reopened because of COVID-19. In Vaughan, all community centres are closed on Labour Day. In Markham, community centres have not opened yet and a date of opening has not been set.
OPEN
- Most major malls, including Vaughan Mills, are open Labour Day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Markham’s CF Markville Mall is open the same hours as Vaughan Mills as is Thornhill’s the Promenade and Newmarket’s Upper Canada Mall.
- Only select The Beer Store locations are open. In York Region, a Newmarket location remains open at 18307 Yonge St., Unit 1. To check on possible holiday hours for a store, go to thebeerstore.ca/
- Services: GO Transit, YRT services and TTC routes.
- GO Transit: On Labour Day, Go Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule. Visit www.gotransit.com for more information.
- All YRT services and TTC routes in York Region will operate Sunday/holiday schedules on Labour Day. Visit the YRT Trip Planner to plan your trip. Visit www.yrt.ca for more information.
