You can shoot hoops again on Newmarket's community basketball courts, as of this week.

Rims and nets are being reinstalled at the 11 parks with courts across town since they were removed last spring when COVID-19 pandemic restrictions closed all municipal facilities.

However, game play is not yet permitted, as physical distancing rules are in place for the courts -- keep a minimum of six feet (two metres) apart from anyone who is not in your social circle.

The Town of Newmarket is also recommending that players wash and/or sanitize their hands before and after using any outdoor amenities.

Groups of teenagers gathered at the closed courts were a common concern for the town's bylaw officers on patrol throughout the summer.

The Magna fitness centre reopened today, Aug. 26, with physical distancing and safety measures in place. You can book workouts in advance. The Magna pool is slated for reopening mid-September.

All tennis courts, sports fields and ball diamonds have reopened.
