Newmarket’s Ward 5 Councillor Bob Kwapis has been elected to the caucus that sets policies impacting small urban communities for the association representing Ontario's municipal governments.

Kwapis will serve a two-year term on the board of directors of the small urban caucus for the Association of Municipalities Ontario (AMO), a non-profit organization representing almost all of the province's 444 municipal governments.

"I look forward to working with the other board of directors to share and shape policies that will assist the association in implementing more cost-saving programs, training opportunities and help to create stronger and more effective municipalities in Ontario,” Kwapis said in a news release.

“Councillor Kwapis will not only be representing Newmarket and York Region, but also all municipalities in Ontario. He will help set policies for the association and serve as a key municipal leader in the province. Congratulations on this achievement,” said Mayor John Taylor.

The Ontario government provides AMO the opportunity to have input on decisions impacting municipal governments.

“AMO benefits from membership from across the province, and a board that reflects the diversity of Ontario’s municipal governments. To that end, I am pleased to have Bob Kwapis on the 2020-2022 Board team,” said newly elected AMO president Graydon Smith.
