The Town of East Gwillimbury will be receiving $662,300 as part of the first-round of emergency funding available to municipalities from the province’s Safe Restart Agreement.

The funds are designed to help municipalities deal with costs and pressures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This funding will allow the town to continue to provide critical services for our residents and ensure we are making fiscally responsible decisions,” says Mayor Virginia Hackson. “We have seen first-hand the impact this pandemic is having on our residents and businesses and we want to ensure we are doing what we can to mitigate those impacts. These funds will be crucial to cover some of the unforeseen costs the municipality has incurred and to help ensure we are in a strong position to build back better and continue to support our community.”

These funds will assist the town with covering a variety of costs that have been incurred to date and will also be reviewed as part of thorough financial analysis and allocated to key financial pressures and priority projects as the town continues to reopen for business.
