Vaughan hiring school crossing guards

There are more than 112 crosswalk locations throughout city

With more than 112 crosswalk locations throughout the city, it was announced Tuesday, Aug. 18 that there's a push to hire school crossing guards for the 2020/21 year.

The city said it needs “permanent and standby crossing guards to service all locations.”

The city recruits, trains and hires crossing guards, conducts pedestrian studies, selects crosswalk locations and installs appropriate signage and pavement markings, according to a city statement.

While dubbing a school crossing guard as a “rewarding occupation” with “flexible work schedule,” the city gave an overview of how a typical day would look like:

• There may be up to three shifts per day -- one in the morning, one at lunch and one in the afternoon -- however, most locations only have two shifts per day.

• The shift times vary depending on location and range between 35 minutes to 90 minutes.

• There are crosswalk locations in Concord , Kleinburg, Maple , Thornhill and Woodbridge. You may also view a map of all crossing guard locations in Vaughan.

Schools are set to reopen in September.
