York Region is working toward preserving the lifespan of Davis Drive.
Just the facts:
- Road work is being done along Davis Drive, between east of Yonge Street and east of Harry Walker Parkway, and excludes the red asphalt in the rapidway lane;
- Construction work includes: repairing curbs; repairing catch basins to allow for better water flow along Davis Drive; and microsurfacing to help increase surface traction on the road;
- Repairs to curbs, catch basins and maintenance holes started in June;
- Microsurfacing -- applying an adhesive mixture with small stones to the roadway -- takes place until July 24, followed by line painting work between July 27 and Aug. 21;
- According to the region, road preservation treatments are completed every five to seven years and can extend the life of a road for up to eight years -- saving future costs on road rehabilitation and reconstruction;
- There will be temporary lane restrictions Monday to Saturday as construction crews move along Davis Drive;
- The cost for this project is about $1.2 million;
- On average, this stretch of Yonge Street carries about 31,000 vehicles daily.
