The Town of Aurora has made the “difficult decision to cancel all 2020 Summer Camp programs” due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it has announced an alternative available to residents.

Camp in a Bag is Aurora’s newest offering as an alternative to in-person summer camps. It has been available to be purchased since June 29.

This new program was camp-inspired by the town to keep children and youth active, engaged and entertained throughout the summer while 2020 camp programs that were originally scheduled have been cancelled because of the ongoing pandemic risks.

“Traditionally, summer is a time to unplug and enjoy some fun and adventure," said Mayor Tom Mrakas. "This is why I am thrilled that staff have been able to keep that campy spirit alive with Camp in a Bag. In spire of the in-person summer camp cancellation as a result of COVID-19, it is wonderful that kids can still take the camp experience home with them this summer.”

The town said that the Camp in a Bag will provide participants with camp-inspired activities, arts and crafts and hands-on tactile experiences that can be completed safety from the comfort of home.

The packages are designed for children and youth ages 4 to 17. There are two types of packages available for different prices. The basic package costs $23, and the deluxe package sells for $38.

Each bag includes camp swag, crafts, activities, a written letter from Town of Aurora Camp staff, and more.

Camp in a Bag can be purchased through Aurora’s ePLAY registration system. Orders will be accepted on an ongoing basis, and will be available for pickup or delivery, based on a timeline available online at https://www.aurora.ca/en/recreation-arts-and-culture/camp-and-pa-day-programs.aspx.
