You’ll hear laughter coming from Aurora playgrounds again as of July 24.

As York Region enters Stage 3 of reopening from the province's COVID-19 shutdown, the town is reinstating all 44 playgrounds in Aurora, which have been closed for months.

Playgrounds are not supervised or sanitized.

Users should maintain physical distancing of at least six feet (two metres) from others, wash or sanitize their hands before and after using the playground, and avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth.

Do not visit a playground or park if you are feeling unwell.

Those who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should contact York Region Public Health at 1-800-361-5653 or call Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000.

Meanwhile, the town will announce more phased-in openings of amenities in coming weeks as risks are assessed and processes are put in place.

“The town is taking a cautious, phased-in approach to reopening services and amenities to the public during Stage 3 of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mayor Tom Mrakas said in a statement.

“Town staff are analyzing all aspects of reopening and ensuring all procedures and precautions are in place to keep our community safe. I would like to remind residents that this pandemic is not over and we all still need to continue to be diligent in wearing a mask when indoors where physical distancing is not possible, practising proper hand washing hygiene, not gathering in large groups and doing everything we can to ensure there is a continued decline in positive COVID-19 cases. Together, we will continue to provide support to each other and move forward during this pandemic.”
