No one is injured after Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service found smoke billowing from a home located at Sandway Crescent in the afternoon of July 24.

"At 1:22 p.m., we were notified of possible structure fire at No. 18 Sandway," Deputy Fire Chief Grant Moffat said. "We arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke coming from the structure. The crews forced entry into the main entrance, where they encountered heavy smoke and a fire on the first floor."

The family living on the first floor wasn’t there, but York Region Police "assisted the tenant, from the basement apartment" to safely exit.

There are no reported physical injuries, Moffat said.

When asked if Vaughan Fire or YRP have learned the reason behind the fire, he said, "No, it's undetermined, but we do have our investigators on scene currently".

The residents won’t be able to return to the home for the time being, Moffatt said.

"There is significant damage to the building."
