Face masks mandatory on York Region Transit

Mask up if you're travelling on York Region Transit.

As of Thursday, July 2, riders must wear a non-medical face mask or covering while on YRT vehicles and all transit properties, according to a bylaw approved by regional council following York Region's entry into stage 2 reopening. 

Children under the age of two, those unable to wear a face covering because of a medical condition, and passengers needing assistance placing or removing a face covering are exempt from the bylaw.

A limited number of non-medical masks will be available for passengers who don't have a face covering of their own.

Also as of July 2, YRT riders must board at the front door of the bus, and exit by the middle or rear doors to create a one-way traveller flow.

Barrier shields are being installed around the driver's area to provide protection between passengers and drivers. Hand sanitizer dispensers are also being installed at all YRT terminals.

Other measures to help reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 and to keep travellers and staff safe include enhanced cleaning and disinfection of buses and facilities and a reduction in the number of seats available to assist with physical distancing, according to the region.
