Grab your helmet and go for a bike ride as a family on one of these family-friendly trails, nestled in greenspace areas in traffic-free settings.

Here is a list of some of the top family-friendly cycling trails in York Region.

Nokiidaa Trail -- East Gwillimbury, Newmarket and Aurora

The 20-km trail winds along the East Holland River, passing through greenspaces, wetlands and historic sites. Along the Nokiidaa Trail, discover Rogers Reservoir, George Richardson Park, Sheppard’s Bush Conservation Area or even the so-called ghost canal.

Milne Dam Conservation Area -- Markham

The 2.3-km trail connects historic Main Street Unionville to the Rouge River Valley. The conservation area is home to wetlands and forests, providing space for many migratory birds, such as blue jays and blue herons.

Sibbald Point Provincial Park -- Georgina

Explore the rich history along the 4.6-km trail, which includes the Sibbald family estate home, a 19th-century manor house. Ride over to Duclos Point Road, which is part of a provincial nature reserve for wildlife sightings.

Centennial Park Mountain Bike Trail -- King Township

Up for a challenge, try the mountain bike trail part of Centennial Park in King. The 5-km trail has a set of three loops designed for beginners, intermediate and advanced riders. The trail is perfect for the youngsters to practise their skills.

Oak Ridges Corridor Park -- Richmond Hill

This park of the Oak Ridges Moraine features 8 km of trails between Bathurst Street and Bayview Avenue. The trail passes through rolling countrysides dotted with wetlands and meadows, and is home to more than 400 different types of plants and 80 wildlife species.
