Retired York Regional Police chief Eric Jolliffe was the first stop on the Character Community of York Region's "awards road trip".
Jolliffe is the recipient of the Character Community's first Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented last week by executive director Susanne Cappuccitti, board chair Megan Thomas and past board chair Deputy Chief Andre Crawford, since the annual awards event typically attended by hundreds had to be cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We are honoured to present the first Character Community York Region Lifetime Achievement Award to Chief Eric Jolliffe. Chief Jolliffe was a strong advocate and supporter of our mission, our values and our work in the community," Cappuccitti said.
"Under his leadership, Character Community and York Regional Police have developed a strong and valued community partnership. Chief Joliffe not only believed in our character attributes, he utilized them in his daily life, both professionally and personally."
Jolliffe, who retired April 30, joined York Regional Police in 1998 and was appointed chief in 2010.
In total, 10 awards will be presented to citizens, schools and businesses in recognition of exemplary character.
