Aurora is holding its annual community cleanup event to help rid the town of litter.

Although COVID-10 restrictions prevent the usual meetup of large crowds, residents can still do their part to help clean up the community.

“Our residents are very environmentally conscious and they care about protecting our green spaces and landscapes. This year our cleanup will look a bit different but we will all be working toward the same outcome, keeping Aurora looking clean, beautiful and litter-free,” Aurora Mayor Tom Mrakas said in a statement.

The cleanup will be held July 25 and 26.

You can participate by following these steps:

1. Sign up at cleanup@aurora.ca to participate and receive a cleanup kit (while supplies last). The kit includes two garbage bags, one clear recycling bag, one pair of nitrile gloves and safety tips.

2. Choose a public park, green space or trail to clean. Target locations are John West Way, Alex Brodie Drive, Vandorf Sideroad, River Ridge Boulevard, Earl Stewart Drive, Issacson Court, Henderson Drive, Stone Road, First Commerce Drive, Desjardins Way, William Graham Drive, Old Bloomington Road, St. John’s Sideroad and all storm water management ponds.

3. Follow the safety tips provided in the kit. Clean up in small groups, avoid large gatherings and follow provincial orders while participating.

4. Place the garbage in the black bags and recycling in the clear bags.

5. When you are finished, leave your garbage and recycling bags in the park or the location you have cleaned up. Please email cleanup@aurora.ca or call 905-727-3123 ext. 3447 to indicate the location where your bags or large items need to be picked up.

6. Show off your clean up skills by tagging before and after photos on Facebook @townofaurora and using the hashtag #auroracleanup.

7. Cleanup kits are available for pickup at the Joint Operations Centre, 229 Industrial Pkwy. N. on July 21, 22 and 23 from noon to 2 p.m. and on July 25 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
