Just because the Town of Newmarket’s traditional summer camps have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it doesn’t mean an end to fun in the sun.

The town is launching a 40 Days of Summer camper kit, offering parents a ready-to-go activity each day of summer to help keep kids busy within the safety of their home.

Each kit includes 40 activities, supplies and directions to entertain and educate children’s curious minds with a range of self-directed and hands-on learning experiences.

Geared toward school-aged children from four to 12-years old, a kit provides 10 activities in each of the program areas of sports and being active, arts and crafts, games and adventures and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

Parents can order kits at play.newmarket.ca using code 129768. Camper kits cost $75 each and are designed for one camper.

They will be available in the coming weeks for curbside pickup at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex, 100 Eagle St. W, or through delivery within Newmarket.

Camper kits are available while quantities last.

Meanwhile, the town will be offering small group, short programs this summer.

These programs are designed to allow for physical distancing and will be limited to nine participants and an instructor.

Kids on the Move -- Park Pop Up Program is one option on the horizon. It will be offered a few daytimes each week on a drop-in basis.

Parents will be required to stay on-site to support their children’s hands-on needs such as washroom breaks and first aid requirements, while participating children get the chance to engage and socialize in a safe and friendly atmosphere.

Parents are encouraged to sign up for the town’s recreation newsletter at surveymonkey.com/r/8PSHW5C or bookmark Newmarket.ca/recreation to receive more information when it is available.

For more information, email the town at info@newmarket.ca or call customer service at 905-895-5193 from Monday to Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
