Mayor Tory expected to make mandatory masks announcement

Masks won’t be mandatory just on the TTC. It will be everywhere in the city.

Mayor John Tory is expected to make that announcement Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. after he and other GTA mayors called on the province to issue a mandatory mask order on Monday.

While the province said no, Premier Doug Ford said municipalities are free to make their own regulations.

At the same time as the Toronto press conference, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown is expected to make a similar announcemement, alongside Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie, Regional Chair Nando Iannicca, Peel Medical Officer of Health Dr. Lawrence Loh and Caledon Councillor Downey, that masks will become mandatory in indoor spaces in Peel Region beginning July 6.
