York Regional Police responded to about 70 noise complaint calls last weekend, from the evening of May 22 to the early morning of May 25.

At least one of the calls resulted in the home owner being charged for throwing a party where there had been 10 or more people, Const. Laura Nicolle said.

On the evening of May 22, police received a noise complaint for a residence on Clark Avenue in Thornhill.

Police charged the homeowner with failing to comply with an order during a declared emergency.

The guests could have been charged for the same offence, "but in this case, it looks like they were dispersed with warning", Nicolle said.

York Regional Police is responsible for taking reports and responding to calls related to the Emergency Management and Civil Protect Act, invoked by Ontario to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Residents are asked to contact YRP's non-emergency line at 1-866-876-5423 to report these violations.

"On top of just noise calls, we responded to more than 200 calls related to the emergency order from May 19th to May 24th," Nicolle said.
