What's open and closed Canada Day in York Region?

July 1 is a time to celebrate everything Canadian. But how can you celebrate when you don’t know what’s open?

Here’s a selection of what’s open and closed in York Region:

OPEN

Most major malls, including Vaughan Mills and Markham’s CF Markville Mall and Thornhill’s The Promenade, are open July 1. Newmarket’s Upper Canada Mall will be closed.

Services

GO Transit: Wednesday, July 1, will operate on a Saturday schedule. (Visit www.gotransit.com for more information).

All YRT services and TTC routes will operate on a regular Saturday schedule on July 1. Visit www.yrt.ca for more information.

CLOSED

All LCBO and Beer stores will be closed on Wednesday, July 1. Where permitted by local municipalities, some LCBO Convenience Outlets may observe their regular hours of business on Canada Day. LCBO Convenience Outlets provide socially responsible beverage alcohol service in communities where residents do not otherwise have reasonable access to an LCBO store. LCBO Convenience Outlets are not located in urban areas, such as Toronto or in communities where a LCBO Store or Beer Store is within five kilometres. Recreation

Most recreation facilities and community centres in York Region are affected by Canada Day. Most of these facilities and centres are closed July 1.

Services

Canada Post is closed on national holidays. On July 1, there will be no collection or delivery of mail. However, post offices operated by the private sector will be open, according to the hours of service of the host business.

Most municipal buildings, including town and city offices, libraries, community and seniors centres will be closed.

Canada Day is observed by most banks, so most branches are closed July 1.
