When he pulled his car around the corner and saw the York Regional Police cruiser his attention was piqued immediately.

It wasn't a crime scene that Nino Nissan saw, however. Instead there were several children grinning from ear to ear, each licking an ice cream cone, with a grinning officer nearby.

Nissan quickly turned on his camera and captured the early-afternoon moment on June 16, eventually posting it to Instagram, where it went viral.

York Regional Police Sgt. Andy Pattenden said Const. Aleksander Mihajlovic was on patrol in Vaughan and spotted a bunch of kids on bikes without helmets around Weston and Rutherford roads.

After speaking to them about the importance of wearing helmets, he ended up making a bet that he could ride one boy's scooter without falling. If he lost, he owed the children seven ice creams.

"He purposefully fell and then went into the McDonalds and bought the kids ice cream," Pattenden said. "He wouldn't give it to them until the children (ranging in age from seven and 11) agreed to wear helmets in the future."

Nino Nissan, who posted the video to Instagram, said the popular account @6ixBuzz shared it, causing it to go viral.

He said he was particular happy when he heard from Mihajlovic's wife after she saw it online.
