Stouffville Mayor Iain Lovatt is launching an advisory committee on diversity and inclusion in the wake of anti-Black racism protests happening around the world.

Residents are encouraged to participate to ensure the committee has representation that reflects the diversity of the community.

“As our town continues to grow and diversify, ensuring that the voices of all residents are being heard is of paramount importance," Mayor Iain Lovatt said. “The purpose of this committee is to help the town analyze decisions, programs and services through a lens of diversity; making recommendations that promote inclusivity and equity.”

The Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Diversity & Inclusion will provide consultation and advice on town programs and initiatives as necessary on matters related to diversity, inclusivity and equity in Whitchurch-Stouffville. The group will also provide support in the development, maintenance and refinement of the town’s diversity and inclusion strategy, slated for release in 2021.

Interested participants are asked to contact the mayor's office at mayor@townofws.ca to receive an application form.

The first committee meeting is expected to take place this summer.
