Although park amenities have been closed in recent months to help stop the spread of COVID-19, work has continued to expand and make improvements to parks and open spaces throughout the City. Residents will be able to enjoy many upgrades and enhancements to playgrounds, sports fields and more once it is safe for parks to fully reopen to the public.
Here are highlights of five parks undergoing enhancements:
WARD 1 -- BUTTERFLY HEIGHTS PARK (1 Butterfly Heights)
The new Butterfly Heights Park includes playground structures with junior and senior play equipment, site furniture including benches and lighting, trees and landscape planting for the entire neighbourhood to enjoy.
WARD 2 -- VAUGHAN GROVE SPORTS PARK (7401 Martin Grove Rd.)
Improvements are happening at Vaughan Grove Sports Park to replace artificial turf on the existing soccer field along with installation of a new score board and perimeter fence around the field, enhancing the sports experience for all players.
WARD 3 -- MARCO PARK (301 Airdrie Dr.)
The redevelopment of Marco Park includes new tennis courts, playground equipment, fencing and lighting along with restoration and maintenance to the landscaping, walkways and benches, providing an exciting renewal of this neighbourhood play space.
WARD 4 -- CRIMSON FOREST COMMON (80 Crimson Forest Drive)
Phase 1 of the new Crimson Forest Common park development includes the creation of open greenspace for outdoor leisure play, walkways, benches, trees and landscape planting. Phase 2 is being planned to coincide with future development in several years.
WARD 5 -- THORNHILL GREEN PARK (19 Beverley Glen Blvd.)
Thornhill Green Park will soon be home to a new waterplay feature located adjacent to the existing playground. The new waterplay area will include splash and spray features that will offer families endless hours of summer fun.
