In an effort to boost local businesses, the Georgina Chamber launched its Shop Local campaign.

Recently, the town declared June 11 Shop Local Georgina Day -- an annual day to celebrate local businesses in the community.

The date coincides with the chamber’s anniversary and this year marks 45 years in town for the local business association.

The campaign, rolled out over the next couple of weeks, comes with a number of phases and initiatives aimed at encouraging residents to support the local business community during these difficult times.

The first phase includes launch of #ShopLocalGeorgina online shop, featuring Georgina emblazoned swag such as T-shirts, window decals and lawn signs sold individually and in bundle packs.

The online shop, shoplocalgeorgina.ca, will also house resource and promotional items, local business directories and information on how to support local businesses.

“Our Shop Local Georgina campaign was designed to shine a light on Georgina businesses and create economic stimulus for our entire community,” said chamber executive director Jennifer Anderson. Now, more than ever before, we need local to be the focus.”

The chamber is working toward establishing a collection of shop scavenger hunts designed to encourage Georgina residents to explore what the town has to offer.
