Vaughan-based Vision Profile Extrusions is taking all the "necessary steps and guidelines" laid out by York Region Public Health after some of its employees tested positive for COVID-19, a spokesperson said May 29.

While the spokesperson asked not to be identified, a Google search of the number she was calling from showed it belongs to Vision.

Vision Profile Extrusions falls under the Vision Group of companies focusing on the building products industry. It hasn’t disclosed how many of its workers have COVID-19 and the remainder of its employees are continuing their work on a voluntary basis, the spokesperson said.

"We've isolated the situation," she said, noting the company voluntarily shut down temporarily last weekend.

After a "thorough sanitization" of the plant, the spokesperson said, "any employees who want to return, will do that on their will.

"We're doing quite fine. We followed all the necessary guidelines and everything is doing wonderfully."

Employees who have been in contact with those who have tested positive, however, "have been spoken to and are isolating. We’ve also taken the necessary steps to make sure they have been tested and that they are safe.

"The employees who choose to be tested are welcome to be tested," the spokesperson said.

Vision’s products and services include columns, decking, fencing, railings, patio doors, steel doors, basement windows, custom profiles and transportation.

Torstar York Region contacted the company after receiving an anonymous news tip saying that up to eight employees have COVID-19 and the plant is telling workers to still report to work. The source said they work at the facility.

However, the spokesperson rejected the claim.

"You cannot force anyone to come to work," she said.

"You can't force anyone who feels unsafe. They have the liberty to make their own choices to come to work."

As of May 28, about 43 per cent of York Region’s 2,364 COVID-19 cases are in Vaughan.

On May 21, Torstar York Region reported two other Vaughan workplaces --UPS and a window manufacturer --were hit with coronavirus outbreaks, totalling 47 new cases at the time.
