The Town of East Gwillimbury has cancelled all summer camps and programs up to Aug. 31. Refunds will be issued to all registrants.
“This was not an easy decision, but given the current provincial emergency orders and closure of schools, we must put the health and safety of our residents and employees first,” Mayor Virginia Hackson said. “We understand the importance of these programs and continue to investigate all options to provide some form of camps and programming this summer. To ensure we are prepared, we will be going ahead with training all camp counsellors and will also continue to monitor recommendations from the province and public health agencies on what options we may have for scaled back or modified camps to help meet our residents’ needs in a safe manner.”
In order to move forward, the town will require that the province lift restrictions and allow for the reopening of municipal facilities. If this occurs, the town says it will look at options to provide modified and scaled back summer camp sessions and summer programs. Some creative programs could include:
• Active EG family drop-in programs
• Virtual programming
• Family camp programs
• General summer camp programs
The town would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding. All registrants will receive a full credit on their ActiveNet account by June 5, 2020. If residents would prefer a refund please email the town at leisure1@eastgwillimbury.ca to have it processed either to a credit card or by cheque. Residents who paid with post- dated cheques will have them returned by mail.
