East Gwillimbury reopened its portion of the Nokiidaa Trail.

The trail and associated trailhead parking lots are once again open to the public at 5 p.m. May 1.

"With the beautiful weather coming this weekend, we are extremely pleased that we could work with our partner the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority to reopen the trail," Mayor Virginia Hackson said. "Access to green space and trails is extremely important for mental and physical health and we are asking residents to be respectful of one another and follow the guidelines put in place to keep this space safe for all."

Town staff will be present throughout the weekend and in the coming weeks to remind residents of the following public safety rules and guidelines:

The Provincial Closure Order allows green space and trials to remain open for pass-through access only.

The Town of East Gwillimbury will monitor and maintain the trail to allow it to reopen for residents. Town staff will continue to monitor the trail and ensure the above guidelines are adhered to.

Residents may contact bylaws@eastgwillimbury.ca to report any concerns regarding physical distancing.
