More pot shops could be just around the corner in the Stouffville.

In the latest round of pot shop information released by the province, two locations in Stouffville have their applications listed as in progress.

The first one is Corner Cannabis, located at the old Savex Lotto Mart on 6272 Main St., at the intersection of Mill Street. The other is Gormley Cannabis, located at the Famous Sam’s plaza at the corner of Stouffville Road and Woodbine Avenue.

Whitchurch-Stouffville became the first council in York Region to agree to allow cannabis stores in last year and One Plant opened in the Longo’s plaza at the start of this year.

“Cannabis is legal and it’s not going away,” Coun. Rick Upton said at the time. “Today, cannabis is very available anywhere, any time you want it, on the black market. This is one of my major concerns; on the black market, you don’t know what is in it, what it’s laced with.”

At the time, many residents were upset with the decision, and council was presented with a 300-name petition opposing cannabis stores.
